PartsinMotion.co.uk has reminded drivers that despite the improving road conditions as we emerge from winter, the risks of vehicle damage from potholes are as prevalent as ever.
New research revealed this week by the UK’s leading independent road safety charity, IAM RoadSmart, has shown that motorists still see potholes as the biggest safety issue on Britain’s roads even compared to speeding or drink driving.
The survey of 2,000 motorists found that 90 percent of them had been affected by potholes in the past year, with 32 percent stating they had even changed route to avoid them. A further 16 percent of those surveyed stated that they have reported a pothole to the authorities.
Matt Gates, director of PartsinMotion.co.uk, said: “Potholes continue to be a scourge on the UK’s roads. Councils have not got a firm grip on the issue and drivers continue to suffer suspension, wheel and steering damage due to the poor condition of the country’s roads, especially as we emerge from the worst of the typical winter weather.”
PartsinMotion.co.uk stocks coil, leaf, gas and sport suspension suitable for all makes and models, from high-quality brands such as KYB, NAPA and Kilen. Shock absorbers are also available from Febi and KYB to ensure a smoother ride, corner after corner.
Suspension damage caused by potholes can be catastrophic, so it is crucial that drivers stay on top of any issues and replace damaged components, from springs to dampers to shock absorbers.
Potholes also cause a risk to steering damage, often caused by wheel alignment being knocked out due to the sudden impact.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at IAM Roadsmart, said: “Drivers are suffering from pothole problems every day and it is adding to the stress and cost of running a car. No one can enjoy their motoring anymore if the roads are in such poor condition.”
